When [Will] Worlds Collide?
I’m continually amazed at the failure [persistance?] of people/groups/countries to ignore 800-pound gorillas wearing tutus and dancing hula in the middle of the room.
“Amazed” may be the wrong word. “Sickened” may be more appropriate.
“Bush Lied.” No, he didn’t. Went on the same info that ol’ “Slick Willy” Clinton had. “Happy Hour” Kennedy agreed. John Kerry too. Shoot, show me a list of Democrat leaders, and I’ll show you a list of people that agreed that Iraq needed fixing.
But nevermind any history revisionism that the Democrats are attemping. Let’s get back to the 800-pound gorilla.
The War on Terror.
Nevermind the Cindy Sheehanites out there: this war exists, and like it or not, we’re in it.
World Trade Center bombing the first time around. We did nothing.
USS Cole. We did nothing.
I seem to recall a little incident with the American Embassy in Africa? I’m a little fuzzy on the location, but I’m reasonably sure about the fact that it happened. We did nothing.
All this non-responsive behavior didn’t appease the al-Qaeda thugs. Instead, we got 9/11.
Remember how everyone compared 9/11 to Pearl Harbor? I sure do. Drew a parallel all by myself. I think a great number of other Americans did, too.
Only we had the warning signs. WTC#1. USS Cole. American Embassy. Who knows how many other warning signs we had that didn’t necessarily involve bombs and dead people. (We may never know, since Clinton severed the ties that bind between the left and right hands that made up the the intelligence department.)
Warnings were now over. War had begun. It had began years before: we just hadn’t fought back.
Finally, we had someone in office that did something: Bush. Suggested we go find the bad guys and do nasty things to them. Republicans and Democrats agreed.
The best I can figure, this is when universes split. Reality and Unreality. The Truth and the False.
Here we are now, fighting this war on terror.
Half says that it doesn’t exist. The war on terror; al-Qaeda; whatever. There isn’t an 800-pound gorilla.
The other half says there is. Cripes, there are banana peels everywhere for evidence.
So now the half that says we’re fighting a “quagmire” of a war… the half that is desperately trying to compare it to Vietnam… the half that hates America… they can’t see the forest for the trees.
Just in the last few days, I’ve seen reports on al-Qaeda [or at least Muslim extremists] claiming responsibility for attacks in Jordan, the Philipines, France [we're up to 17 days in a row now], and an attempted attack in Australia.
I’m tired of listening to the ignorant idiots in the Democratic party - and the mainstream media - whine about how we shouldn’t be in Iraq.
We should be. Good is being done there.
What’s sad is that America and Britain (mostly by themselves) seem to be leading the fight on a group that knows no borders. We need the rest of the countries of the world, that want to keep their country safe, to join in this war on terror.
Still disagree with me? I leave you with this delightful thought:
After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, what if we’d done nothing? What if America had taken the stance of “we did it to ourselves?”
What sort of country would the United States of America be today?
Hell on Earth, mein friend.
