The Pope is Back
Recently I posted about the oncoming doom of ABC’s Pope John Paul II.
I didn’t realize that CBS had their own version. Called Pope John Paul II [with a subtitle that simply reads "Based On The Powerful True Story"], this MOW stars Jon Voight as the Pope.
The same Jon Voight that played Noah in Hallmark’s disaster-of-a-movie Noah’s Ark.
The same Jon Voight that played a male prostitute in “Midnight Cowboy.”
Form your own opinion.

I saw reluctantly the Jon Voight special on Pope John Paul II last night. I didn’t see all of it, just parts. I liked the early parts of his life as a young priest. His charasmatic youth isn’t widely known by non-Catholics.
It was okay, but I’m with you, I was skeptical. I saw that Noah special years ago. What a horrible DISASTER! It was horrid! What a bunch of crap! I guess its harder to screw up the Pope than Noah.
What was your opinion? Did you see it?
I opted out of watching the show. Would I have watched it? Maybe. But to be honest, the show came on, and I didn’t even think anything of watching it… until now.
My mind is a bit elsewhere this week, it seems, as I prepare for a long overdue trip back to Dallas, Texas to spend Christmas with parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
“I guess its harder to screw up the Pope than Noah.”
I think there is much truth in that. The story of Noah may be in scripture, but it is a history of some time ago. The Pope, however, was recent history. Not as much room for “creative license” there.
