Funny Money No Laughing Matter

Hat Tip to Don and Linda for the following story out of Dallas:

About a 4 or 5 weeks ago we sent [a $100] bill to the bank. I was the one that discovered it was fake. It felt too smooth.

It had the thread in it, it had the water mark and it marked ‘good’ with a counterfeit pen marker.

When the deposit was sent to the bank, we told the bank we thought it was fake. Even the bank’s counterfeit pen marked it “ok.” When the bank ran it through their machine, it kicked it out.

This is when we found out how you can always tell if a bill is good or not.

There are ridges in the clothing of the presidents. I did not know this neither did Christie or any body else we have told. You can feel them with your fingers or you can scratch the bill on the clothing area of the picture with your finger nails. The ridges will always be there if the bill is good.

So, do not depend on any marking pen to identify legal money. Always scratch the clothing on the presidents and make sure there are ridges there.

This had to be organized crime. Who else could put the thread, water mark and a coating on the paper so a [marking] pen would show it to be legal?

Have you scratched your money lately?

I don’t know if it was organized crime or not, but I suspect that there are some folks in the federal government that would love to talk to the counterfeiters.

Here’s another thought: Dallas has a lot of immigrants coming in from south of the border. My bet is that a fair share of them are illegal. I wonder if this funny money came in from the south as well? I sense yet another reason to have secure borders.

Offhand, I can think of a number of reasons to secure the border to the South.

Holy cow! That’s helpful. Does that mean Don and Linda were out $100?

I’m going to print out this entry and use it in the future as a reference. Hopefully I’ll never need it.

  3. Nope. Linda works in the accounts payable area of a small business. Christie is her boss. The business probably lost the $100, though.

Apparently the ridged areas of the presidents appear on other presidents/bills as well… not just the $100 bill.

Amy, just out of curiosity, how did you find Mr. Rhodes’ blog? I’ve seen your comments on Hawkeye’s blog, which links to mine…which links here.
    (Amongst other places…)

Camojack, I’ve been keeping track of Robert’s blog for, what, a year? Maybe less. I’ve only known about Hawkeye for several months now. Love them both! Good guys. I’ll check out your site, next.

  6. Couldn’t have been a year yet… I’ve only had the blog up since August 2005.

With all that’s gone on that’s worth posting, it just seems like a year.
