Jerry Reed

Jerry Reed passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008.

If you’ve never listened to a mess of Reed’s songs, you’re cheating yourself out of some serious fun.

“She Got The Gold Mine (I Got The Shaft),” “Amos Moses,” “Huggin’ and Chalkin’,” and one of my personal favorites, “The Bird.”

Of course, he’s probably best known for his song from the movie “Smokey and the Bandit,” where he also starred with Burt Reynolds. “East Bound and Down” was a fun rock-a-billy tune, but it doesn’t come close to the other songs that he’d belt out on a guitar and for a crowd.

The humor in his songs was meant to make his audience laugh. But often during a given live performance, he’d just make himself laugh just as much. He always seemed to really enjoy what he did, and it showed.

Thanks Jerry.

Now… someone get me a BB gun!
