Way Back Machine

Written by Robert Rhodes on Saturday, December 13, 2008 in: Personal |

Just by happenstance, I checked the old college website… which [if I may pat myself on the back] I created back in ‘94.

The website has changed completely in the intervening 12 years… but oddly, they kept the data (in an unlinked folder) on the website that I posted on… December 11, 1996. It was a Wednesday. I posted in then, because my last day was December 13. A Friday.

(Hm.. I wonder if that is why I was jobless for the next 4 years? Never leave a job on Friday the 13th. That’s my advice. But I digress…)

From the Eastfield College website at www.efc.dcccd.edu… (which, by the way, is now EastfieldCollege.com)…

December, 1996

Well, after eight years (four as a student, four and a half as an employee), I’m leaving Eastfield. This Friday (12/13/1996) will be my last day. It’s was an absolute pleasure learning and working at Eastfield. The Educational Network TechSupport area has certainly grown in the last four years, and I’d like to think I had a lot to do with that. If anything, I leave this place (TechSupport) better than how I found it.

By creating most of the Student EMail system here at Eastfield, I hope that it brings students and instructors closer together, and that the students now, and in the future of Eastfield, enjoy the work I put into it. As Postmaster, I really enjoyed helping bring people closer together.

Most of all, I enjoyed my work as Webmaster. The chance to display what Eastfield has to offer to the community was fantastic. I’ve worked hard to make sure that the webserver system is the best it can be. I hope that future visitors to the Eastfield site enjoy the standards that I helped to create, and the system that I designed.

To everyone, I say “thank you”. If there were ever a great place to learn, and work in a casual environment, it is Eastfield College… a true community college.

Goodbye. :)
