And The Rain Fell

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

In Hawaii legend, rain is considered a blessing from the gods.

On Black Friday - the Friday after Thanksgiving - the people of Hawaii celebrated the win of the University of Hawaii Warriors football team, as they won the WAC championship at Aloha Stadium for the first time since they joined the WAC twenty-nine years ago. It was, arguably, the best game in the history of the University.

Minutes later, in Honolulu, the showers that were forming came together, and the rain fell.

The blessings were well received by everyone.

Keys To The Kingdom

Well, those spammers out there continued to annoy me. They’ll find holes in places you didn’t even know you had places.

So I’ve added a code-verification, care of ProtectWebForm.com.

Now the trick to posting is that you must be registered.. you must be logged in.. and you must type in the correct code in the image verification. (First time posters will have to wait until I approve their first comment.)

It’s not perfect by any stretch… but I’m hoping it cuts down on the spam a great deal. We shall see.

Ghost Writer

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Yeah, I’ve been scarce in regards to posting on Aloha Daze. Job got really busy over the holidays… then the parents came to visit the island for the first time… then…

Well, then my little medical condition known as sleep apnea paid me a visit. Ah, the memories of March 16, 2007…

Want to see what happens when you don’t address sleep apnea? This is what happened when I didn’t address it:

So much for my perfect driving record. My 2003 Honda Civic versus the back of a stationary 1994 GMC SUV Tahoe.

I knocked the spare tire off of the Tahoe. And maybe some of the dust off of it’s bumper.

Me? They took me away in an ambulance.. but not before sticking a neck-brace on me, and placing me on the flat backboard.

I’m happy to report that - outside of the car being totalled - the only person that was hurt was me. All my bones and pieces intact, I hurt like the dickens from the seat belt.

Air bag? Yeah. It went off, too.

For the passenger. (No, there was none.)

Driver’s side airbag never deployed.

Perhaps that’s why I now own a Toyota.

The sad part is, I was beginning to address my sleep apnea. Went to the doc and got an appointment to get a sleep test and such. And the next day, I wrecked.

I woke up just in time to see the back end of the Tahoe, and I thought “Brake!”… but that’s as far as I got. I don’t think 5 feet seperated me and the back of the GMC at that point. And at about 20 MPH… it was over for me before I even knew it started.

So if you can’t sleep at night, and you can’t help from sleeping during the day… don’t do as I did… go seek treatment.

I got lucky. I figure it’s God’s way of saying I should take care of myself. The bruises have healed. Most of the pain is gone, but I still can’t lift anything over a few pounds. It’s amazing how much you use your upper chest muscles.. and how much you miss them when you can’t use them.

Smallville and The WB: Whisked Beyond?

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

As a big fan of the tv show Smallville, I’m looking forward to the beginning of the sixth season. But then a thought occured to me: when does the show premiere?

What I didn’t think about was… WHERE does the show premiere?

The WB Network and UPN are no more. Instead, look for the CW Network.

CW? Yes. A shared business of CBS and Warner. The CBS/Warner Network.

On this new network, look for all the shows that used to be on the WB Network. In addition, all the shows that used to be on UPN as well.

So where and when is Smallville? I still don’t know WHERE. A lookup of “where to find the CW Network” on the CW Network site yielded me a very useless “check local listings.” (No kidding. Really?) When? The same time as last season. Thursdays at 7PM Eastern.

If you’re a fan of Smallville, or any of the shows on the now departed WB and UPN networks… check out some of the following links to see where your show went.

Which Way Did He Go?

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

A very, very long way.

I’ve been busy lately with a new job. This new job is working out fine. It’s the drive that’s killing me.

As the song goes, “Give me forty acres, and I’ll turn this rig around.”

Path across Oahu

Actually, my round trip from Makaha (the Leeward side of the island) to Waimanalo (the Windward side of the island) is about 100 miles. If you think of an acre as a perfect square, that means that each side of the square is about 208 feet long.

So I guess I need 2,538 acres to turn MY rig around.

I think it’s time to move. I’d say, around 2,500 acres or so closer to work would be nice.
